Battle

Another great hip hop beat by Guru and DJ Premier, Battle uses a sample from a soundtrack written by Elmer Bernstein.

The movie, Where's Jack, came out in 1969. DJ Premier slowed down the first few seconds and made a great beat out of it.

Bombing Bastards

In 1999, Tricky joins Terranova to create Bombing Bastards, released on the album Close The Door.

The gloomy atmosphere comes from a sample of John Carpenter's music. Assault on Precinct 13's soundtrack was done in three days with the help of Tommy Lee Wallace.

Wandering Star

Known for their movie soundtrack inspired trip-hop, Portishead, a band from Bristol, released its second album in 1997.

Wandering Star, one of the most beautiful song of the album, uses samples (with scratches from Geoff Barrow) from Magic Mountain by Eric Burdon and War. This song is featured on Love Is All Around (1976). Lee Oskar (harmonica) is simply brillant here.

Lyrics To Go

Another Hip Hop classic by A Tribe Called Quest: Lyrics To Go (1993)

It uses a sample from Minnie Ripperton's Inside My Love. The album, Adventures in Paradise, was released in 1975 and was a hit. You can hear Joe Sample (!) on the keyboards...

Mcs Act Like They Don't Know

Here's a very interesting sample. The track is Mcs Act Like They Don't Know by KRS-One. DJ Premier produced it and it was released in 1995.

A hit at the time of its release, its source was the arrangements of Yesterdays (written by Otto Harbach and Jerome Kernby Clifford Brown. The album, Clifford Brown With Strings, was released in 1955, one year before the artist's tragic death.
